Hi Karen My name is Charmaine Govender and I am from South Africa. I am 44 years old, and just over 2 years ago,I was diagnose with high grade, aggressive, leiomyosarcoma of the uterus (went in to have uterus removed due to fibroid which turned out to be malignant tumour). After surgery,I had radiotherapy. Was fine for about 1 year. In April last year, onco discovered tumours in thelung. Had major lung surgery. About 4 tumours were removed. 6 weeks later, after a scan, more tumours were back. Had 2 bouts of aggressive chemo. Just could not cope. Besides my hair falling out in under 10 days, I was very ill. Had blood trannsfusion etc. Made a decision to stop chem. Doctor warned that without treatment I would not even survive 6 months. Well a year has past. I am back at work. Tumours are still there (spread to both lungs)- but I am coping. I guess this is a disease that you have to beat with your mind, prayer and support of friends and family. My decision to stop chemo was a difficult one. Some people that that I was selfish and stupid, as chemo was a lifeboat that I was turning away. But at the end of the day, listen to your body, your gut. Our bodies tell us what we can and cannot handle. Many people sail through chem, which is wonderful. Please keep my posted on her progress, and I will remember her in my prayer. Love and light Charmaine Govender

My wife is 43 and just had a hystorectomy where they removed a 23cm highgrade leiomyosarcoma tumor. The margins were not clear so she is at Dana Farber getting AIM chemo and then later will get radiation. Sounds like Margaret has a similar case and would be interested in exchanging emails.
